The mountain-sized pile of laundry on my bed has been staring me in the face all day. And yes, when J took a nap I just scooted a bit over and plopped him down right beside it all hoping he didn’t get lost in it.
I woke up at 6:38 with excessive amounts of zeal. I sat outside, read the Word, talked to God for a bit, went to church, came home, took the kids swimming, and went for a teeny 10 minute run to work out some of the soreness that Cannon gifted me (what do they say…if ya know, ya know) last Friday. There is soreness in places I don’t even know how to stretch. I sat on the porch and attempted to be still and breathe. A cardinal and yellow belly bird of some sort came to visit me twice today, if you were wondering. I chatted with Kyle about big-kid-type life decisions and now I’m sitting her watching Everly do twisty, no-handed cartwheels on the trampoline.
On Day 1 of this project I have noticed that being outside is easy peasy. If you’d like to be jolted awake just go sit outside in the sunshine as soon as you open your eyes. It works even more quickly than coffee (stated by a girl who drinks maybe 10 cups of coffee a year). I’ll write more about the reasons why soon (not the coffee…the light in connection to the rest piece). Avoiding TV is the easiest thing on the planet, however, in regards to media I’ve decided I am straight up addicted to my phone. I’ve picked the thing up like 523 times to open Facebook only to stop myself from scrolling and put it down. It’s like muscle memory and I loathe that. I think I just like knowing what is going on people’s lives so feel free to FaceTime me (or come sit on my back porch) and tell me about your day if you feel so inclined. As I sat down to reflect on today, I had to remind myself of what I was even going to do with this little 21 day project and then I quickly remembered I forgot to list my three things I was grateful for. So here they are.
- Puddle Jumpers
- Colors (not the crayons, but actual colors [green trees, blue sky, red bird, yellow belly bird, etc.])
- The three plants that are still alive on my back porch.
Then there was spending. So day 1 and I’m already having to make adjustments to that area. I completely failed to include entertainment in my list of things I can spend money on. If you know me, you know the amount of money I spend on entertainment is quite small (the amount I spend on food is quite colossal), BUT…I had yet to buy my kid’s pool pass so I quickly remembered I needed to include that. The sprinkler works for a little bit, but the pool brings me a bit more sanity. And…not going to lie, I did buy a $15 book last night at like 11:38 because I knew I’d be too stubborn to buy it once the clock struck midnight and summer project #1 started. I’m sure I could lump that into entertainment, but there’s a library five blocks away so I suppose I’ll nix buying books from the spending category.
The only thing that’s left is the actual sleeping side of rest. We shall see how this goes. It’s looking like I only have 4.5 hours left before that time draws near and I’m already a bit devastated about not getting my 17 hours of night time aloneness. Maybe I’ll wake up at 5:30 and pray the kids don’t follow suit.
Anyway, over half of day 1 is in the books and I apologize in advance that for the next 20 days (if you read my blog/posts) you will essentially be getting a daily diary entry from my day. If you are addicted to Facebook because you want to know what’s going on in other people’s life, here ya go!
Okay…bye friends! 🙂
